- I have an established stand of shipmast locust. The trees are 50-80 years old. We have been harvesting the trees that are showing signs of deterioration and sawing them into boards/cribbing on our Norwich sawmill. We recently began clearing the understory and undesirable growth with an excavator and chainsaw to give the desireable trees room to sucker. We will be applying herbacides to kill the invasive vines and shrubs and then planting grasses. I have also experimented with taking root cuttings to produce clones. I would like to fence in the stand for livestock to maintain control of the site.
