CCE Jefferson / Lewis Pasture Walk series continues in 2013
Introduction to Silvopasture
1st Meeting: Wednesday, June 26
From our pasture walks and meeting many have expressed interest in silvopasturing and why not? Silvopasturing is well-suited for our NNY landscape and livestock.
10:00am – 12:00pm Mazy Acres / Jim Young. Miller Road, Antwerp
Organic Dairy; Reg. Holsteins; new bedded pack barn with flat parlor.
12:00pm – 1:00pm Lunch on your own. We’ll bring the water and snacks
1:00pm – 3:00PM Beartown Farms / Gene LaMothe, Antwerp
Grazing sheep and beef. Meet on Pulpit Rock Road (look for signs). Instructor Joseph Orefice, Owner/operator, North Branch Farm, Saranac, NY
Assistant Professor, Paul Smith’s College, NRESS Student, University of New Hampshire will walk us through former dairy farm turned woodland. Last pastured 50 years ago. Plus woodlot that was last planted to corn 20 years ago.
Cost: $10 per farm or family.
