We rotationally graze heritage pigs in the woods.  We are experienced, full-time farmers working with a grazing specialist, and co-op extension to ensure that our management practices are sustainable. We have won prizes and grants for farm management innovation. We fence with moveable solar-powered electric fencing. We are looking for 75-500 acres of hardwood forest in Columbia or Berkshire Counties. Land must be accessible by vehicle, have a water source, and must not be overly steep. We are interested in purchase or long-term lease. We can provide landowers with Agricultural Exemption.

Unfortunately, I do not have land to offer you, but wish I could.  When the pigs are in the forest, how much grain is supplemented and how long does it take to finish them off?

Good luck....

Thanks, Dave! There are a lot of variables- breed, quality and amount of forage available, how often you move them, weather, parasite load. Our pigs are finishing in 6 months with very little grain.
