I have for 20 years owned about forty acres of second-growth forest adjacent to farmland, a haven for wild turkeys, other birds and small forest mammals. I have invested in farm equipment to maintain abandoned wood lot roads, to thin the woods and clear fallen trees. I am proud to have found American Chestnut and Elm here (though I can't confirm it is alive today). I would like to continue clearing the understory of and new and invasive growth and to explore the possibility of converting it to fuel or soil.
