Event Description

July 10 -16 (partial attendance invited) at 3 Streams Farm in Belfast, ME.

Detailed schedule at 3streamsfarmbelfastme.blogspot.com

Traditional Air Meadow pruning cycles are aimed at creating accessible native tree forms for harvest of high quality animal fodder.  These methods also enhance bush and ground browse layers, provide nutrients to pasture plants, fix more carbon, increase tree longevity, preserve broader forest gene pools of tree individuals per area, and increase habitat diversity and species counts.

  • Presentations on pollard development, air meadow selection and design, and harvest and storage methodology (Shana Hanson), billhook use (Benjamin Bouchard), arborist skills and safety (Mike Jastrom), assessment of soils for tree species (Dave Rocque), benefits and uses of biochar and woody mulch (Mark Fulford), tree fodder in the European historical context (Morten Moesswilde and Shana Hanson), ancient traditions (Paul Hand of Bees and Trees, UK), tree fodder in Nepal and Real Economics (Carol Kinsey of Seed Tree), & tree fodder for meat production (Michael Walder or Mahna Farm, Ontario).

$150 sugg. contribution for the week.  Food and accomodations inc.

$35 sugg. for one day; $20/day sugg. for additional days.

$10 sugg. donation to attend any single presentation.

3 billhooks available at cost, $61.77 each.
